“The Anonymous”
by Corey Frost

On this very highway, at the start of last year,
We stopped to argue on the side of the road,
Though it was dark and our exit was near.

I was so pissed off I could hardly steer,
And the car was skidding because it had snowed
On this very highway, at the start of last year.

We sat for a while with the car still in gear,
After anger subsided and heartrates slowed,
Though it was dark and our exit was near.

It was this very spot, though now the sky’s clear.
Maybe you’ll say that we’ve reaped what we sowed
On this very highway, at the start of last year.

So strange how the random will then reappear.
This anonymous spot where the umbrage flowed.
Though it was dark and our exit was near.

What are we doing? Why are we here?
On this very highway, at the start of the year,
Though it is dark and our exit is near.
